Thanks Crackberry.com for these two great videos! This video is the OS walkthrough. Read more for the unboxing video... Just a sidenote, while I am a huge iPhone fan, it will never as awesome of a device as my Blackberry 8700g was in terms of email abilities, cut and paste, and super detailed customization through profiles. Sorry Apple, until you can allow for that, the BB 8700g will always be near and dear to me.

Finally a native Mac OS version of the all powerful OpenOffice application. OpenOffice, if you don't already know, is one of the greatest opensource apps ever. It is my preferred office suite and works so well in any OS. Now that there is full native Mac OS support, this app is going to rock even more. Granted, this is still beta 3.0 so there will be bugs and as always, keep your most important data backed up just in case something happened... Although I doubt anything will, don't say I didn't warn ya.

Audacity, one of the greatest opensource apps ever has been updated to 1.3.5! Some of the new features include new keyboard shortcuts, more informative dialog boxes, updated libraries (Libogg, Libvorbis, etc), fewer issues under linux, and the coolest, when you hold down shift then click record, it will automagically start recording at the end of the existing track.

Taken from Poulsenhybrid.com:
Poulsen Hybrid® Power Assist System patents pending
Creates a PHEV by retro-fitting electric motors, DC motor controllers, storage batteries and an on-board charger to a conventional new or used automobile.
The development is based on the observation that only 10-15 horsepower is required to propel a compact or mid-size automobile along a level road at a steady 60-70 mph. leading to the conclusion that this relatively small amount of electric power would be able to cope with 70-85% of normal driving, only aided by the combustion engine during start up and when extra energy is required for acceleration and hill climbing.
The patented system incorporates powerful electric motors mounted externally onto 2 wheels of a conventional car. The motors are normally applied to the rear wheels, in the process converting a front wheel driven car to all wheel drive. The system works equally well with rear- and all wheel drive vehicles, gasoline or diesel fueled.
Poulsen Hybrid system utilizes Permanent Magnet, Axial Field (PMAF) motors. This style motor came into being with the development of extremely high-energy, rare earth permanent magnets and has found use in aerospace and advanced vehicles including the "Sunraycer" record winning solar powered racecar. They feature high power and torque within a compact, lightweight disk shape architecture and are ideally suited for direct drive road vehicle applications.
The PMAF motors specially developed by Alpha-Core, Inc. for Poulsen Hybrid are rated 5kW or 7 horsepower each at 1000 rpm (app. 60 mph).

CHDK. Do you know what it is? No? Well, when I got my Canon SD1000 (click that link to see my video review) the first thing I started to look for are hacks. CHDK is the Canon Hackers Development Kit which is basically a custom firmware that allows for new and waaaaay cool functionality. I have been playing around with the modified CHDK firmware and the ability to take pics in RAW format and take video clips up to an hour in length really turns the old Canon you have into a powerhouse. How easy is it to install on your Canon? Well, if you can copy files over to a flash drive, you can install the new firmware. I mean, it's a little more involved than just that but it is really that easy. If you have a good five minutes, you can be up and running. The most important thing is finding out the firmware that's on your Canon already. This is VERY important. You don't want to load the wrong firmware. Now, with that being said, when you load the new custom firmware, nothing is ever permanently changed but you use this firmware at your own caution. You *could* potentially break something but it is unlikely. I loaded incorrect firmware but it didn't break anything. So, I could spend hours and hours going through all the details of how to do this or you could just read this article by Lifehacker.com. They did a great job of showing you how to setup your Canon to use this CHDK firmware.

Yeah, free music. The free album age is coming people and it's groups like Radiohead and NIN that are leading the pack. Nine Inch Nails is releasing their latest album, The Slip, for free in High Definition Audio formats, we're talking M4A lossless and FLAC! I'm not the biggest fan of NIN but I am dying to hear a artist to consumer lossless album.

If you want to be adventurous, you should dive into the world of thumbdrive linux distros. Yeah, they are not only badass but can work on just about any computer that allows for USB booting. Most machines in the past three years can boot from a flash drive so having your desktop on the go makes this a lot of fun. I have been a huge fan of Puppy Linux and Damn Small Linux (DSL) for years. While DSL is very basic and super lightweight, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles that Puppy has. Both are good and I encourage you to try them both but lately, I have been loving Puppy Linux. Coming in at about 100mb installed, Puppy linux has a lot of the usual apps, Abiword, Seamonkey (Mozilla browser suite), Gnumeric (think Excel), and other small useful apps. The cool thing is, you can install other apps (specifically games) and emulators making Puppy linux on a flash drive way more fun. MAME comes to mind.

If you have any sense, you have watched and love the Big Lebowski and treat it as holy material. Tonight, on Fuse, the Big Lebowski is running and the part that made me laugh is when Walter is busting the corvette's windows in and he yells, "This is what happens when you fight a stranger in the alps!" OMG, I died I was laughing so hard. Do you want to know what he really says? Well... Read more for the real line.

OMG did I have fun reviewing this product. Although I had no way of recording it at the time, I managed to turn off a wall of TVs at my local Fry's Electronics in a matter of minutes. It was even better when I had turned off the TV that was hooked up to the Xbox and PS3 console at Best Buy during these two kids GH3 jam sessions. The expressions and groans of utter frustration were amazing. Now, I didn't dare turn off the TVs while the Suns game was on but I did turn off the CCTV in the bar. LOL, I LOVE THE TV-B-GONE! Such a simple device with such amazingly fun outcomes. Of course, you should use discretion when using the device so as to not get your face pounded in by some dude or the bouncer. It's really best for pissing off your friends when they're watching a suspenseful show. So how does it work? Well, there's one button, push it and point it to the TV and in a few seconds, BOOM! The TV is turned off. Similarly, push that button again and it will turn back on. So how does it work? Who cares! It works! You don't ask how the sun works, you just enjoy it. Pros: More fun than a shocking pen, small enough to keep with you all the time, easy operation, great price for the amount of fun you have
Cons: Limited range, wish it had two IR LEDs instead of just the one Overall: A definite tool in your arsenal of "going out gear" Score: 8/10 Price: $19.99 from the TV-B-Gone website Read more for pictures!!!

Drive enclosures are usually all made the same. They feature a USB or Firewire (1394) port and sometimes feature NAS (networked attached storage) capabilities adding on an ethernet (RJ45) port allowing you to connect to it to your home network. They all feature the same types of connectors and are all pretty indistinguishable from each other. However, there are some small features that can separate them apart allowing for an end user experience that will leave you feeling really good about your purchase. For the past month I have been using the Macally PHR-100AC enclosure. It has been a FANTASTIC enclosure and is subtly different from past enclosures I've used but there are a few things that really set this drive enclosure apart from others.
Priced at a competitive $69.00 from Macally.com, the PHR-100AC features a solid aluminum body with a great chassis slide allowing for the tray to be slid in and out with ease. This particular enclosure has USB 2.0 and Firewire 400 (1394) connectors. There are actually two Firewire ports on the back that act as a pseudo hub (think daisy chain). This enclosure also is meant for IDE or PATA drives NOT SATA. This is a very important piece of info here. The reason why I like the PATA enclosures, well, I'll get to it in a minute. The PHR-100AC also has a stand so you can keep it vertical or you can stack other PHR-100AC's on top of each other without any problem. This is a great design implementation by the way. Stacked enclosures on your desk make you look hardcore. Ok, so back to the PATA (IDE) connector over SATA. The majority of the hard drives I have lying around the house are older drives usually less than 80gb in size and are all 5400rpm IDE drives. I usually replace them with much larger drives and while these smaller drives still work great, they just don't cut it as a working hdd in a primary pc. They do make great backup drives though and that's just what I did. I turned my old 80gb Maxtor into a Time Machine drive using the PHR-100AC enclosure. Read more for the full review, my pros, cons, score, and photos!

Yeah, you probably already got that tax return in the mail and you are pretty close (probably) to getting that $300/$600/$1200 economic stimulus check blah blah blah. The question is this, are you going to be smart and invest that money or are you going to blow it on a TV or piece of gadgetry you really don't need? Well, the TV makers are banking that you are going to spend it on a shiny new LCD TV. Turns out a few of these major makers are looking to drop prices up to $500 per TV set. Sure a new TV would be nice but wouldn't paying off that car or home a little sooner be a better idea? Or how about paying off that credit card you used to buy that old TV?Before you go out and blow your tax return and/or stimulus check, think. Don't be the stereotypical American.

BitLet is an online bittorrent application that works really well and is totally cross platform thanks to delicious Java. How does it work? I have no idea. Does it work? Totally. Basically, so long as you keep the download window open, your download will continue to download and seed. It gives you the option to pause and resume too! Is it a better solution to say Transmission or µTorrent? Not really but in a pinch, it totally works.

I am addicted to web apps. I can spend HOURS checking out new and innovative web apps. Since the boys at Google started doing that thing of paying obscenely large amounts of money for web apps, more and more developers are creating them just to get snagged up for a couple million dollars. So, the great thing is that you and I benefit from the long hard hours these developers spent trying to make the next Flickr or Rememberthemilk.com.
You can either search tirelessly for web apps or be smart and use a directory to easily find that one neat app you always needed. The best site I have found that is really easy to navigate through is The Unofficial Web Applications List. This dude has put together a great site with a lot of excellent apps in a format that is really easy to work through. Definitely the best site. Another great site is run by the Weblogs network, Downloadsquad.com. Another great blog showcasing some web apps, some payware, freeware, etc. Not the best but definitely a great tool nonetheless. Whichever method you use to find that killer app, keep in mind that the chances of that app lasting for more than a couple years is slim to none so always have a backup plan in case you are storing all your data on that one app. Just a tip from someone who invested a lot of pics and personal time in photoblogs in the past that are no longer in existence (this was just three years ago too).

When I'm lazy, sure, I'll go to my drugstore and buy a card but sometimes I like to get creative. Wanna be a bamf? Make your own card and personalize it to the person you're giving it to. It will not only make them smile bigger but you'll also save some coin. Here's a couple tips to get this task done without ever having to leave the comfort of your Mac (if you have a PC, you can still do these but I highly suggest ditching the PC and get a real computer). First up, the Concert Ticket Generator. Sure it's not a card but put this in an envelope and create a custom message on the fake concert ticket. If you're a punk, just create fake tickets and give them a to a buddy and see if he shows up at the concert doors, just be sure to videotape him arguing with the dude at the gate...lol Next, Mr Picasso Head. Yeah, create an original Picasso and have it emailed to that person (save a tree!). Definitely cool and extremely original. This is probably a great idea for that artsy-fartsy friend of yours. You know who, the dude or chick who has a red wool couch and blank white canvases hanging on their wall with an orange dot in the lower right corner that they paid $52 for at an estate sale. Yeah, that person. lol. Lastly, how about creating a cheesy or lame (or both) motivational poster!? Yeah, like the ones you see in the breakroom that no one ever reads? Yeah, one of those. Put a picture of you and that person and then a snazzy tagline.

It kills me when I go out with friends and I never know if where we're going is going to have any good beers. Like, last night for example, we went to Margaritaville and eventhough I knew the beer selection was going to be limited, I just wasn't sure how limited and how expensive. If there were only a website with a list of beers available and the cost. Well, these two dudes created a site with that specific intention. It's called BeerMenus.com. As of the posting of this...post...lol...they only have NYC bars cataloged. Not only does BeerMenus.com feature a list of beers in NYC bars, they also feature upcoming craft brew events. Definitely a cool site and I highly recommend checking it out.

Sorry for not posting in a little over two weeks. I recently was involved in a multiple vehicle accident and have been in therapy and not doing so hot so I had to take a break. I posted a couple here and there but I haven't been able to put together many new video reviews. I have been feeling a bit better and I have quite a few products to review and post on the site so please keep checking back and keep watching for the latest videos. I hope to have about ten videos up by next Tuesday and even more up by next weekend. Let's see how far I get. Thanks for your support, please keep coming back to Tekbru.com and Dealbru.com, and I promise new material and tons of videos real soon! Sammy
